What is the difference between Vitara SZ-T and SZ5? ›

There are electrically heated door mirrors, LED daytime running lights, climate control, Bluetooth and a host of safety equipment, too. SZ-T models also feature sat-nav, adaptive cruise control and a reversing camera, while SZ5 models come with a keyless go function, a panoramic sunroof and polished 17-inch wheels.

SZ-T adds smartphone link display audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear view camera, front fog lamps and 16-inch alloy wheels. SZ5 adds auto air conditioning, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, polished 16-inch alloy wheels, rear electric windows, Dual Sensor Brake Support and Adaptive Cruise Control.

A full hybrid works in the same way as a mild hybrid in terms of filling the car up with fuel and driving as you normally would. The only difference is that the combustion engine will automatically switch to running on electric only power.

Heading the list of most reliable car makes is Honda (scoring 96.8 / 100), followed by Toyota (91.2), Suzuki (88.7), Kia (86.2) and Hyundai (80.5), once again demonstrating that if you want reliability you need to buy from Japan or South Korea.

Is a mild hybrid car worth it? Depending on your priorities, a mild hybrid car could be a great choice. They offer better fuel economy and lower emissions. While you won't get the zero emissions of an electric vehicle or even of a full hybrid, it's definitely a step in the right direction compared to a traditional car.

It rides well, too – indeed, instead of crashing and banging over every pothole, it manages to absorb obstacles with ease. Even choosing the turbocharged Vitara S with its firmed-up suspension doesn't create an uncomfortable ride. Refinement is another area that impresses.

All 2019 Vitaras should have timing chains. If by some chance the car is a late-registered 1.6 diesel (which ended production in 2018), then that has a timing belt.

Mild hybrids make conventional combustion engines significantly more efficient with little effort. This involves recovering kinetic energy while the vehicle is braking ("recuperation") – just like KERS in Formula 1.

The mild hybrid powertrain, also known as MHEV, utilizes both a combustion engine and an electric motor. The MHEV is used to start the engine and brake or slow the car, thereby recovering brake energy that is stored in the 48V battery. This energy is then used to help boost the combustion engine when accelerating.

You may come across the term mHEV when looking for information on different types of hybrid vehicles. The acronym is derived from Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The so-called mild hybrid is one of three types of hybrid cars, which can also include full hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Although they're the most common type of hybrid vehicle, their battery size means they only hold small amounts of electric charge. This means they can only drive for short distances, typically up to a mile, on electric power alone.

Solution: A common issue with the Vitara, this is being caused by seized brake callipers. This can be an expensive job if you have a mechanic install replacements, but you'll find callipers for the Vitara in our online store, and it's a simpler DIY job than you might have thought.

Dualjet motors are the least powerful, while Boosterjet versions are turbocharged for extra power without too great an effect on fuel economy. Hybrid versions have a battery and motor for improved efficiency.
